Cut Copy-Take me over (Tim Goldsworthy Remix)

My new favorite and vote for remixer of the year goes out to Tim Goldsworthy. Everything he touches is just magical and so good. Here he puts his touches on the new Cut Copy single and again I am left an even bigger fan.

Such a great video of a great song. Highly recommend the Nicholas Jarr remix. So tasty.

Cary Ann Hearst-Hells Bells (Midnight Surfer Remix)

Here is a new remix I did of the very talented artist by the name of Cary Ann Hearst
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Cary-Ann-Hearst-is-a-person/77400921843
I first heard Cary Ann through Filter Magazine and I really liked her voice, but then I got to see her play live, and she blew me away. She is truly a gift, and I was lucky enough to get a stems from her management, as I wanted to play this tune in my DJ sets, however for some reason Country Twang doesn't work well with Disco/House. So her is my Trip Hopish take on this amazing tune. Enjoy and be sure to check out her EP, as it is beyond great.

The Bees - Winter Rose (Tim Goldsworthy Remix)

I have been a fan of Tim Goldsworthy for some time now, and a even bigger fan of his remixes after parting ways with NYC, and venturing back to his home land in United Kingdom. Being one of the main dudes behind DFA Records, Tim found a sound that makes any track take on a new character, and allows tracks like this one, to become dance floor worthy.

This track by the Bees is amazing, which utilizes the great vocals as they bounce over a mellow synth hook. But my favorite part of this track, is the drums as there seems to be two patterns fighting with each other, and gives the song new life and a different sound. I don’t know if this is really the case, but whatever Tim is doing, he is going a great Job.

Kim Ann Foxman - Creature video

I have been a fan of Kim Ann for a very long time now. I had the honor to DJ with her and Andy Butler of Hercules and Love Affair a while back, and she was not only very nice, but had great record selections and skills to match. I was very bummed to hear she parted ways with Andy and HLA, but glad to hear she is on her new journey creating great jams like this one. This is a great song and video that showcases Kim Ann's powerful voice as well as her keen artistic eye that is seen through this video.

I have also heard tons of great remixes of this song on sound cloud and can't wait to get my hand on the vinyl when it shows it's face.

Midnight Surfer-Phono/Aux

Here is a new track I did. Have a listen. E-mail me for the download link. Sweet.

Canyons - My Rescue (Dr. Dunks Disco Extension)

There is something about a good piano riff over any sort of house beat. We even discussed this in my keys class last night, as we were disecting House of House's tune Walking these Streets, and there use of the F minor scale throughout the song. It adds this magical sound scape that give the bass and kick depth, while allowing the song to have character and a sense of being.

Another perfect example is how Dr. Dunks, aka Eric Duncan, uses his keys to add another demension to this already powerful song. Have a listen and a download thanks to our friends over a RCRDLBL.

The Glass - Four Floor Letter (Black Van Mix)

I love when a group that I have forgotten about, blasts back with a stellar remix that reminds you why you liked them in the first place. Black Van is one such group that I really dug about a year ago, but since then nothing has caught my eye till this remix of the Glass's tune Four Floor Letter. With a heavy four on the floor drum beat, this remix uses a mixture of synth tones, over a deep analog bass sound that takes you on a groovy trip. What makes me a fan of Black Van, is there use of tones, and the way they approach each song. None of them are over the top electro bangers, that are a dime a dozen nowadays, but a well placed sonic groove that allows you ride along at your own pace. They have a since of groove that seems lost in today's over the top electro music, but also makes it refreshing when you do come across a group such as Black Van. I highly suggesting picking up their songs over at DFA records.

Faze Action - I Wanna Dancer (The Revenge Remix)

Every now and then, an artist comes along that is really special, and you can tell that they are becoming a powerful force within the music world. The Revenge is one such artist, that ever sense landed on my radar, has pumped out dozen upon dozen stellar remixes and original tracks ranging from disco remakes to hip hop fun like his Q-Tip remix. Besides his amazing production work, he is also a gifted DJ, that has bumped him high on the "Want to Hear" dj list.

On this remix, he takes UK disco powerhouse, Faze Action's tune, I wanna Dancer, and shapes it into his own. With haunting vocals, over a very natural, almost atmospheric sounding drum beat, with a great synth line that pulsates throughout this tune. It is not another over the top electro bangers that has become overly prevalent in our music work, but a solid tune that also anyone who is listen to escape into their own little world.

This is worth a listen and buy. Go have a listen on his soundcloud page here.

New Track-Midnight Surfer-Realistic Decline

Hey Everybody.

Been super busy creating some new tracks, and finishing up a few remixes, so I have been ignoring Mysty Mornings until I had something new to share. Here is a new track I did last week when I was exploring some new techniques and a new synth called Circle. I highly suggest anyone who looking for a new sound, check out Circle by FAW, http://www.futureaudioworkshop.com/circle/. Not too expensive, and allows you to easily create any sound you are looking for. But beware, you will loose many hours just searching through their massive sound bank of pre set sounds. I am really pumped on this new addition, and i am barely even scratching the surface of what it can do.

Midnight Surfer-Realistic Decline by Midnight Surfer

I have a bunch of new tracks I want to share this week so be on the look out as well.

Take Care.

12th Planet & Juakalai-Reason (Doctor P remix) Video

Sometimes I need a video to remind me of why I love downtown LA, and in this 12th Planet, aka LA Dub Step GOD, takes me there. If you are into that Dubstep, no better place to look than 12th Planet. His skills as a DJ and Producer are tops in the game, and a huge career in the making.

There are few artists that can inspire me as much as Cary Ann does. I don't if it is her addicting personality, or her intoxicating voice, but everytime I hear her belt out a tune, I want to grab my guitar and strum some tunes. Here is her new video for the Thread. Such a great song, and amazing video to match.

Findlay Brown-Promised Land (Villa Remix)

I never knew who Findlay Brown was until The Stallions did a amazing number of one of his tunes last year, which caught my eye and lead me over to hear what he is all about. Well I found out a few things when I did. One being I wasn’t a fan of his music but then again, I could see why many remixers were taking cracks at remixing his works, as he has a great set of pipes on him that is becoming harder and harder to find. As a struggling producer, I know how important vocals are in making your track reach that next level, so anyone with ear, would jump for joy to work with Findlay Brown’s vocals. I know I would as I think one of the hardest things as a producer is finding solid partners who have vocals to match your tunes. I know I am lucky to finally find a vocalist who has the pipes to take a song to that next level.

Here we see the duo of Villa remix the track Promised Land, which takes this track on a new ride while hinting at the disco undertones that put Villa on the map with their first releases. They use such perfect tones in this remix that accompany his voice so well, while still crafting a joyous dance tune. However, this track is not a dance floor burner, that many blogs and people overly obsess about, but just jam to play on a warm summer day, or a cold winter night that will leave you wanting more of Findlay’s amazing vocals.

Electric Umbilical Cord-Red of Deception Video

As the electricity pulsates through NYC, Electric Umbilical Cord is there to collect it's power and harness it into the musical soundscapes that makes EUC one of NYC's most promising acts. With the Prey EP gearing up for release this November, EUC releases a new video for the track Red of Deception, which showcases their hunting vocals, over snappy snares, uplifting synth lines, and a driven bass line, that reminds me a lot of great sound that came out of UK in the late 70's and early 80's, yet hints at their own unique sound that will carry them a long way. What stands out the most with EUC work, is their use of space within all of their songs, and well crafted synth sounds, that all find there place nicely in the mix.

This video is a fine taster of what is to come from EUC. Be on the look out for their new EP, the Prey, out via Bandcamp and many other outlets.

Also, they host a Bi-Monthy night at White Noise in NYC. So get your dance on and have some East Coast fun, so check their Facebook page for updates.

Foals Cover Swedish House Mafia's One

I am not a huge fan over covers, as I would rather listen to the real thing. I always feel the band covering always leaves out essessial elements that make their cover less than par. However, when I heard the Foals cover of Swedish House Mafia's One my mouth dropped, and again was reassured that Foals will save the face of music. Well, maybe not the face of music, but since I first seen them at the Troubador a few years back, they have become one of my favorite bands, and I can't wait for them to come back to LA. This cover, takes the #1 club hit this summer to new heights, while still hinting at the sonic undertones that made it the #1 song it was. I am still on the hunt for the download, as I have a feeling we will be seeing a proper release of this in the near future, as so far, the only one I have heard was a recording from a live show, which makes this cover even better. Cheers.

Midnight Surfer-Change #1

Everyone goes through changes, and sometimes even though you don't know it at the time, they are always for your best interest. This year has been a year full of changes in my life that I never would have thought I would have made, but I did, and now understand why those changes needed to happen. This track is the ending of one page in my life, and the opening of the next. Enjoy.

BoT'ox-Blue Steel (Still Going Remix)

Another super solid remix here by Still Going of BoT'ox's new single Blue Steel. I don't know how Liv Spencer and Eric Duncan do it everytime, but they turn out gold each time and seem to have crafted a sound that many wish they could duplicate. I know I wish I could. And what blows me away even more is they produce these amazing tunes on top of crazy busy touring schedules, in addition to the jams they drop in their other respected groups, and as individual artists. These two truily have a gift and I am excited to hear their next remix, and hopefully follow up to stellar original releases that both have found a permenant home in my DJ bag.

Wow!!! When this came into my inbox this morning, I jumped for joy. Not only have I been a huge fan of the 19 member disco outfit from Brooklyn for a very long time, I am an even bigger fan of new disco music. This song is so good and my excitement for this on vinyl is at new heights. I can't wait to hear Greg Wilson's take on this and hopefully he will play this in LA on Oct 30th.

Tensnake-Comacat (Round Table Knights Remix)

Tensnake can do no bad, and especially with the release of Comacat, which has seen love from around the globe, and caught my eye originally on Beats in Space. The original is amazing, and I can see how even the top remixers having trouble making this one better than it already it is. Round Table Knights did their best, as I do like their take on this track, however my love is till with the Original. It is so good you should go by it or listen to his Soundcloud page.

Groove Armada-History (Still Going Remix)

There are few artists that I admire as much as I admire the production duo of Still Going. Liv Spencer (House of House) and Eric Duncan (Rub n Tug) produce such amazing tracks and remixes; it is hard not to notice their production skill. Groove Armada has always been a force to reckon with in Dance music community and on the heels of their latest release, Still Going adds their disco dust to this jam, and turns it up a notch on this “History” remix. I especially love the vocals hidden underneath the thumping bass line, and driving Kick drums. Thanks to kids over at RCRD LBL for hooking up a free download of this sweet jam. I know I was excited when this came into my inbox this morning.

Gavin Russom-The Tangible Presence of Miraculous

Gavin Russom is back with a great new track in his group the Crystal Ark. Best known for his work !!!, and lately as synth player in LCD Soundsystem, Gavin has carved out a very nice place in the NYC music community, as one of most influential and powerful synth players and builders. Having crafted his skill at a young age, and then in Berlin before returning to NYC, he has been the brain child behind all the amazing synth sounds that we hear out of many DFA artists, and most sounds heard on the new LCD Soundsystem album.

In his latest track, The Tangible Presence of the Miraculous, Gavin crafts a 13 minute + acid house trip. With various synth patterns layered throughout this journey, his selects the perfect tones only he knows how to get out his instruments. With building drum beats and bass lines, accompanied by organic vocals, makes you think back to the first M.I.A. album meets an 80’s dance floor burner.

I have a feeling this one I will be playing for a very long time.

I love Disco!!!! And this new remix of Booka Shade's track Tennage Spaceman by Tim Deluxe is amazing. With a pulsating bass line, over a catchy drum beat, takes these electro bangers into the realm of disco greatness. Love the tones he picks and the gentle chord stabs he places throughout this heater. Big room Nu-Disco at it's greatest.

Azari & III- Reckless (With Your Love) Tensnake Remix

There are few artists and producers who seem to have a solid grip on how to use the tools of today, to re-create the sounds of yesterday, but Tensnake seems to be one of them. He has created so many great tunes over the last year and half he has been on my radar, and even though the sound is different from track to track, they all seem to share one thing in quality, great tones!!!! Which I think is the most over looked part in the world of music production, and why so many artists fail to gain main stream popularity as most people can create a track, but not many can make that track shake the cosmos by using the tones they have and making them sound the best they can. Most people fail to realize this in music production, less is more, and in my eyes, Tensnake grasps this concept to its fullest.

In this remix of Azari & III’s track “Reckless (With your Love)” he takes this track and puts an early 90’s twist on it. Another great remix from Tensnake, and I highly suggest going and buying his hit track “Coma Cat” Which is a favorite of mine.

Sade-Smooth Operator (MIdnight Surfer Extended Edit)

There are few songs that can pull me from a funk, but no matter how down I am, this song always makes me happy. I am not a huge Sade fan, and can say I don't even own a complete album, but this song is a classic in my eyes and if I could, I would DJ it every night out. So that was my mission when creating this edit. I didn't need to add anything as it is already a smoker, however it wasn't the easiest to mix as the vocals came in so early. So here you have an extended edit for easier mixing while DJING. Enjoy.

New Arcade Fire!!!!!

There are few bands that I love as much as I do love Arcade Fire. I remember the day that my good friend Jamie Callaway yelled at me to run to record store and buy their EP. I skated up to Arron's Records (RIP) on La Cienga and grabbed this life changing CD. I played it over and over for months, and it never got old. It was everything I wanted in a band and I was so glad Jamie pointed me in the right direction. That was over five years ago, and they still have that same affect on me. Thanks to our friends over at Fadar, we have two new tracks to fill our ears and make our senses tingle until the whole albumm is released soon.

DOWNLOAD: Shit Robot - I Found Love (TBD Remix)

Another great remix I came across. I am really obsessed with Justin Vandervolgan. He seems to make any track a dance floor killer. And his group TBD lives up to the hype with this amazing Remix of Shit Robot. Enjoy via outr friends over at Record Label.

Aeroplane-My Enemy

I have been a fan of Aeroplane for some time now, or every sense their amazing Grace Jones Remix, and was lucky enough to see one of their last gigs together in LA at a Club Called Rhonda. They were pretty decent openers for the best DJ ever, Harvey, but you can tell that their main fortay is producing amazing remixes and tracks. It is too bad for all of us, that they decided to split ways before their new album dropped, as it would have been rad to see them develop into a live band like Soulwax. Here is another GEM of a song, that reminds me of Moroder with building synth lines, and a very groovy baseline. In my eyes, and within my ears, their best work yet, and hopefully we hear more of this same type of disco radness on their album. Thanks to the rad blog of http://simonspacerock.wordpress.com/2010/ for opening my eyes to this track.

The Disco BIscuits-On Time (Midnight Surfer Remix)

I never heard a track from the Disco Biscuits that wasn't a remix, so I was shocked to find out that they were actually a live band, which got me very excited. However their music failed to capture me as much as I wished it would have. It could have been the track I heard, so I can't wait to hear them live and see what they have to offer. Here is a remix I did for their song On Time.

Kele-Tenderoni (Midnight Surfer Remix)

Midnight Surfer-Saturday Night Edit

Digging through crates of records is a very rewarding experience, especially when you come upon a great jam like Saturday Night by T-Connection for a dollar.
